So...where are you actually trying to take your business?
Nobody starts a business because they dream of having beautifully documented processes.
You probably didn’t start yours because you couldn’t wait to create an onboarding workflow, organize your files, improve your scheduling system or figure out who should be responsible for client follow-ups.
Those things matter.
But they’re not the reason you’re doing any of this.
They’re the plane ride.
What you actually want is Hawaii.
And maybe your Hawaii really is Hawaii.
Maybe you want to be able to go away for two weeks, sit by a pool with something cold in your hand and not wonder every 20 minutes whether something is falling apart back home.
That sounds pretty good to me.
But maybe your Hawaii is something completely different.
So, what’s your Hawaii?
Maybe you want to hire two more people so you can finally take on the work you’ve been turning away.
Maybe you want to open a second location.
Add another crew.
Launch a new service.
Hit a revenue goal you’ve been working toward for years.
Maybe you want to stop being the person everyone comes to with every question.
Maybe you’d like to pick your kid up from school at 3:00 without answering emails from the parking lot.
Or maybe you just want to get to Friday afternoon and feel like you actually moved your business forward that week instead of spending five days reacting to whatever landed on your desk.
That’s your Hawaii.
That’s the thing you actually want.
Nobody really wants the plane ride
Think about an actual vacation.
Nobody says:
I cannot WAIT to spend six hours on an airplane.
You tolerate the airport, security line, cramped seat and tiny bag of pretzels because of where the plane is taking you.
Business can be a little like that.
An SOP?
Plane ride.
A better scheduling system?
Plane ride.
Documenting your client onboarding process?
Plane ride.
Getting payroll off your desk?
Plane ride.
Setting up a proper follow-up process so leads don’t disappear into your inbox?
Also plane ride.
You don't really want any of those things just for the sake of having them.
You want what they make possible.
The problem is, there’s nowhere to put the next thing
This is where I think a lot of established business owners get stuck.
You know where you want to go.
You probably have no shortage of ideas either.
The problem is that your business is already taking everything you’ve got.
Your current clients need looking after.
Your team has questions.
The schedule changes.
Payroll needs to be done.
Someone needs to follow up with that new inquiry.
There’s an employee to onboard.
Your inbox is doing whatever inboxes do when you ignore them for half a day.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that is the thing you said you wanted to do next with the business.
So you tell yourself:
I’ll work on that when things settle down.
Except…when exactly is that happening?
Because if your business is growing, things probably aren't going to magically get quieter.
And if every bit of new growth simply creates more work for you, eventually there's nowhere left for that growth to go.
What if an opportunity showed up tomorrow?
Let’s say that client you’ve wanted to work with emails tomorrow.
They’re ready.
It’s a great opportunity.
Could you say yes?
Or would your first thought be:
Oh man. How are we going to fit this in?
Maybe you’ve been thinking about adding another service, but you haven’t had time to figure out how it would actually work.
Maybe you’d love to hire another employee, but the thought of recruiting, onboarding and training someone right now makes you tired just thinking about it.
Maybe you know there are things you should be doing to grow the business, but you’re so busy running it that they keep getting pushed to next week.
Then next month.
Then someday.
That's not because you don't want it badly enough.
You may simply not have the capacity for it yet.
This is why I don’t want to start with your to-do list
If we sit down to talk about your business, I’m not terribly interested in starting with:
“What admin tasks would you like us to take off your plate?”
Of course I want to know what’s taking up your time.
But I want to know something else first.
Where are you trying to go?
What do you want this business to be able to do six months from now that it can't do today?
Because that changes the conversation.
If you want to add another crew, we can look at what's going to need to happen behind the scenes to support that.
If you want to take on more clients, we can look at where your current capacity is getting stuck.
If you want your team to rely on you less, we can figure out what keeps coming back to you and why.
If you want to take an actual vacation without running the business from your phone, we can look at what still depends entirely on you.
You bring the goal. Then we figure out what needs to change behind the scenes to help you get there.
Your Hawaii determines the plane ride
That's really what I want business owners to understand about the work we do at AnchorPointe.
We're not coming in with a standard checklist of things every business should have.
Your business is different.
Your goals are different.
And your Hawaii is different.
The systems, processes and support we put in place should actually help you get somewhere you want to go.
Sometimes that might mean documenting processes so your team doesn't have to ask you the same questions over and over.
Sometimes it means improving scheduling or client follow-up.
Sometimes it means taking recurring administrative work off your desk.
Sometimes it's helping you get ready for the next employee, the next 20 clients or the next stage of the business.
The plane ride depends on the destination.
So I’ll ask you again: What’s your Hawaii?
Forget for a minute about everything you should be doing in your business.
Forget the systems.
Forget the processes.
Forget the never-ending to-do list.
What do you actually want?
Where are you trying to take this business?
And if you know the answer to that, here's the next question:
What's currently getting in the way?
Because maybe you don't need another idea.
Maybe you don't need another course.
And maybe you don't need to work harder.
Maybe it's time to build the capacity for the business you're actually trying to create.
That’s the work we do at AnchorPointe.
You bring the Hawaii. We’ll help you figure out the plane ride. ✈️🌴
